Two Frooom! short feature films at the festival in Ahmedabad (India).

Two Croatian short feature films, from Zagreb and Rijeka, produced at the master workshops of Frooom! Film School for Children and Youth by Shadow Casters, have been selected for the competition program of the International film festival in Ahmedabad (from December 8 to 10), the largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat, out of 250 submitted films.

The first selected film, “School is School” from 2022 (Zagreb), had its world premiere at the Parsaloco festival in the largest Greek port, Piraeus, while the second, “Stick Hit The Fan” from 2021 (Rijeka), has been shown at over 9 international festivals and has won three significant awards at festivals in the United Kingdom, the “4 Rivers” festival in Karlovac, and the festival in Atlanta, USA. The film “School is School,” featuring Mirej Đurović, the daughter of actress and director Lana Barić and composer and music educator Frane Đurović, deals with the specific emancipation of its two protagonists (MĐ and Agata Golembiowski) through a one-day school truancy. In its dramatic approach, it shyly recalls the famous film “Thelma & Louise,” but ends happily, enriched by experience, and promising through the mutual empowerment of the protagonists. “Stick Hit The Fan” is a humorous socio-business dystopia inspired by the pandemic isolation and the conditioned fear of everything, set in a fictional office of a company with an undefined purpose. Movement is replaced by eating, and the attention of others becomes a comical tyranny of sameness. The young actors/authors of the film convincingly present this world and all its relationships, with fantastic cinematography and interesting editing. The mentors of these films are the award-winning film author, theater and film director and actor, and professor of philosophy Veno Mušinović, and intermedia artist, film director, and author Vjeran Vukašinović, who managed to create two professionally demanding films with young authors who have been attending Frooom! Film School for Youth for years. Since 2011, the school has been addressing functional film literacy along with computer, information, and media literacy through an interdisciplinary approach in Croatia and abroad.
