‘Whisper of the Walls’ at Design District 2017

Written by on 2017-06-12

After a double feature at the KinoKino Festival and multiple study trips to Macedonia where they explored public spaces, their secrets, complications, problems, and possibilities, Shadow Casters are landing at the Design District Zagreb and inviting all young future designers, urban planners, and architects to an unforgettable workshop!

In the Whisper of the Walls workshop, children aged 8 to 13 will have the chance to thoroughly explore the Design District over two days! From Martićeva Street and Ratkayeva Street and back, we will investigate every building entrance, bench, and street name. We will delve into all those spaces that once were bustling but are now empty. We will examine why Martićeva Street was once known for paint and varnish shops, and today is a design hub, at least once a week. The materials we gather will be shaped into unprecedented performance and multimedia forms, and in the end, we’ll present them to everyone who crosses our path!

In the Whisper of the Walls workshop, children will have the opportunity to learn how to observe spaces, explore visible and invisible choreographies of their surroundings, and gather audiovisual characteristics of their city. Participants will learn to view the world around them, and their city and its spaces as a shared resource for all citizens. Through a Socratic and deductive approach during the workshop, they will learn about their rights, children’s rights, and human rights in general, using insights from urban anthropology and ethnology, as well as getting acquainted with new technologies.
