Project Duration: May 25, 2022 – May 25, 2023
Total Project Value: 316,470.07 HRK
EU Co-financing Amount: 268,999.56 HRK
Project Description:
The “Film Labyrinth” project addresses the issue of unequal participation opportunities in artistic and cultural activities for older adults (54+) across the Republic of Croatia. The past two years have altered the dynamics of social and cultural life, reflected in the rapid transition of cultural content into the virtual world and especially in the hyperproduction of various online artistic content (performances, exhibitions, books, discussions, workshops). These contents were not adapted or segmented, and most were non-interactive, which is understandable given the ad hoc approach. However, there is a need to tailor cultural content to the needs, interests, and requirements of older adults.
The first solution the project addresses is the adaptation of online interactive artistic programs in media literacy for older adults. Although this is a heterogeneous group of people aged 54+, their needs for media literacy content are similar.
Our long-term experience has shown a significant need for media literacy to be taught in an engaging and relaxed atmosphere, resulting in numerous activities and film works. Group dynamics and interaction between participants and facilitators contribute the most to this, but we believe well-designed online programs can create a similar atmosphere and engage participants in interactive learning about media literacy in a multi-layered way.
“Film Labyrinth” is inspired by online versions of treasure hunt games. Participants navigate the online labyrinth independently through a series of puzzles and ultimately discover a mysterious film, which is discussed during the participatory workshop. Each labyrinth has a specific theme (film dramaturgy, editing and narration, etc.) and is divided into three cycles/film meetings and Labyrinth pro workshops that delve into the theme.
The second solution the project addresses is digital literacy for people aged 54+, as a significant portion of older adults use online tools poorly, especially those specialized for online learning. In practical work with filming equipment, such as cameras, tripods, and sound recording, as well as computer equipment for image and sound processing, participants have shown great interest and activity but are often cautious and even fearful of technology. Despite having computers at home that they use regularly, participants still feel apprehensive, approaching new tools with tension and discomfort, though with great interest and effort. We aim to improve the IT skills of people over 54 years through participation in online content.
The “Film Labyrinth” project will offer participants guidance through the world of online and digital tools for work, learning, creation, and connection, alongside learning about film and media. Personalized support and workshops designed to gradually become more technically demanding as participants’ experience grows will enable them to acquire new skills and improve their digital literacy, which is essential in today’s professional and personal life.
In addition to artistic excellence and the promotion of high-quality film content, our program stands out for its emphasis on interactivity, accessibility, and first-class visual design in an appealing blend of art, education, and entertainment. We aim to encourage participants to become film and IT experts without them even noticing.
Objectives and Expected Results of the Project:
The goal of this innovative project is to promote equal opportunities and active social online inclusion and participation in cultural and artistic project activities for individuals aged 54+. Through online film cultural and artistic activities, this group will be socially (re)integrated into society, contributing to creating a more favorable and secure environment through internet activities.
