We will be screening two renowned short films, “Little Light” by Alain Gomis and “Then I See Tanja” by director Juraj Lerotić, both of which, through children as the main characters, address young people’s life experiences, play with the perception of reality, and explore film as an art of deception and manipulation. They also address serious themes in a wise, sensitive, and conceptually designed manner, topics that parents and teachers often hesitate to discuss with children and young people.

In addition to Lerotić, this screening will be attended by producer and activist Arijana Lekić Fridrih, with the conversation moderated by dramaturge, poet, and activist Dorotea Šušak. We would love to involve children and young people in the discussion and are ready to answer all their questions, especially since we are very inspired by Juraj Lerotić’s text from the Film Chronicle about working with children in film.

Continuing our twenty-two-year practice of engaging with the city, its material and immaterial heritage, reading spaces, and educating citizens about the resourcefulness of shared spaces, the Shadow Casters organize this project titled “Urboglyphs: City Multiplication”, which continues on March 24th with a cinema program where children are once again welcome, featuring the Croatian film “Into the Blue” directed by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović and the Portuguese film “Stone in the Pocket” directed by Joaquim Pinto. Both films address puberty and its challenges in very different ways, which could be particularly interesting for younger audiences, but also for those a little older.

Juraj Lerotić was born in 1978 in Kiel, Germany.
