The Hum of The City

The Hum of The City is a post-drama, a group-based performance in the form of a ludic lecture.
It deals with the hypertextual reading of the public, private, business and shared urban spaces of the cities in which it takes place. Thus, although largely methodologically and dramaturgically fixed and determined, it is “enriched” by the narratives of each city and its local community that it collects through multi-disciplinary research. The play is played/ performed/ delivered by actors from all partner environments and cooperated in the process of work and performance. In an interactive way, by involving the local audience in a specially designed social game, it presents and engages all the historical, economic, political and personal dynamics and uses of the chosen spaces. The content of the play is space as a resource and its use and transformation over time. The protagonists of the play are historical figures, landowners, buildings, present-day users of these spaces or citizens who have their own opinion or reasons to use the space. The performers play all these personalities, moving through time and space, connecting one place with other similar places in some particular city in Croatia and beyond. Each event is also contextualized by the world events, scientific discoveries and literature (be it theory or fiction).
This play is also an opportunity to exchange knowledge and applied methodologies among partners in other settings – to create similar performance models for activist and political action. It is critical of today’s usage policies, conversion and transformation of selected spaces; and through its discursiveness it offers the audience a chance to come up with their own solutions.
