FATHER COURAGE

“Father Courage” is a remarkable urban performance that takes you on a mesmerizing journey through the historic city center of Dubrovnik. The performance is composed of five unique parts, each of which takes place at the same time, passing through the same urban locations, and encountering the same “guardians of the place,” albeit not always under identical circumstances.

The inspiration behind this awe-inspiring performance stems from the Croatian reality of Dubrovnik’s devastation, caused by unsustainable tourism and economic greed. “Father Courage” aims to encourage the audience to become more involved in their daily reality, the environment, coexistence, and responsibility. The performance is also influenced by Brecht’s dramatic parable “Mother Courage.
Each part of this urban performance commences with a symbolic ritual that involves “killing” the audience and then reviving them. This is intended to provide the audience with a better understanding of the reality that surrounds them and to which the play points.
