Date: November 19, 2025
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Location: POGON MISLAVOVA, Ulica kneza Mislava 18, Zagreb
Facilitators: Dr. Sandra Uskoković and Viktorija Pilon
Organizer: Association Shadow Casters, with the support of the City of Zagreb and the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia
As part of the project “Performance is Archive, Archive is Performance: Critical Approaches and Innovative Methods for Preserving Performing Arts”, the workshop explores ways of recording, archiving, and reinterpreting performing arts through practical, reflective, and interdisciplinary approaches.
The goal of the workshop is to gather personal memories, sensory impressions, and reflections from workshop participants, i.e., audience members, in order to develop new, participatory models for preserving performance practices. Since systematic archiving and preservation of performing arts has not yet been undertaken in Croatia, Shadow Casters introduce a completely new, experimental approach that combines practice, theory, and audience engagement.
Guest Lecturer: Zrinka Džoić (Department of Information Sciences, University of Zadar) will give a workshop lecture titled “The Archive as a Living Body”, presenting documentation and archiving practices in independent performing arts in Croatia. Participants will reflect on their own “work archive” in small groups through a guided exercise — considering what it would contain, how it would look, its boundaries, and whether it exists at all.
The workshop involves students from the Academy of Fine Arts (ALU) and lecturers who are experts in performing arts.
