Frooom! film workshops are coming again in four cities

Written by on 2025-05-23

Shadow Casters invite you to a wild and creative film adventure that will take place this summer in four cities – Zagreb, Rijeka, Koprivnica, and Split! Join us at Frooom! film workshops offering everything – from the first steps in filmmaking to more advanced challenges in editing, screenwriting, and shooting.

FROOOM! Film School for children and youth exists with the purpose of teaching participants to watch, understand the language of film, and encourage active exploration and creation of video content. FROOOM! is an innovative and interdisciplinary educational program aimed at children and young people aged 8 to 17. Through film workshops, participants explore film history, analyze media content, and develop creative skills. Workshops are held in small groups, and the program includes different levels: beginner, advanced, and master. The first Frooom! Film School was held in 2012 in Zagreb and was created by the nonprofit organization Shadow Casters under the leadership of Boris Bakal.

In February, we already met in Zagreb and Rijeka, and now we are launching a summer wave of workshops with new dates across Croatia!

Our instructors – experienced directors, actors, cameramen, editors, and screenwriters – will guide you through the exciting process of making short films, from idea to premiere. With their help, you will discover how the film industry breathes, and your creativity will explode in a safe and inspiring environment among your peers.

During all workshops, participants will be provided with a free hot meal, which they can choose via a form that we will send a few days before the workshop itself.

Beginner workshop – for children aged 7 to 11, a perfect first step into the world of film. They will explore movement, shoot their own TV reports, discover the magic of the Camera Obscura, and create their first film forms through play and imagination.

Advanced workshop – for participants aged 10 to 14 who have already completed the beginner level. They bring their own ideas, choose locations, frame shots, shoot, and experiment with film language and techniques. Now participants become real little film professionals! They play with symbolism, explore meanings, color games, and expressive means. Each participant brings their idea, and as a group, they decide which idea will be realized.

Master workshop – for teenagers aged 13 to 18 who want to dive deeper into specific aspects of film: animation, shooting, editing, screenwriting, and something entirely new.
