FROOOM! on the road: film workshop participants travel to Belgium for the Filem’On Festival

This year we are once again traveling to Belgium for Filem’On, an international film festival for children and youth, which takes place from October 27th to November 2nd in Brussels. It was founded with the aim of promoting film art among youth, encouraging their creativity and critical thinking. Every year, the Filem’On Festival offers a rich programme including film screenings, workshops, and activities for children and teenagers up to the age of 16.

The festival features a wide range of films, including fiction, animation, and documentary films from around the world, many of which are not usually available in commercial cinemas. Filem’On is also committed to cultural diversity, so the films are presented in multiple languages with subtitles, making them accessible to a large number of children from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds in Brussels.

Through various activities, the Filem’On organisation actively contributes to the development of film and media literacy among children and youth. In addition to the festival itself, Filem’On runs participatory projects throughout the year in collaboration with schools, organisations working with underprivileged children and youth, and extracurricular initiatives. Through these projects, children and young people not only watch films, but also actively participate in their creation, developing their creative and communication skills.

This year, our participants from Zagreb, Rijeka, and Split are heading to Filem’On: Viktor Rasol, Vid Klisurić, Mak Peračić, David Marijanović, Maro Lukšić, Ozren Stojsavljević, accompanied by mentors Mia Zara Burčul and Marino Paliska.

This is not the first time that Shadow Casters and Frooom! are travelling to Filem’On. In fact, it’s a long-standing collaboration that has been going strong since 2020, with our Frooom! participants getting the chance each year to attend the festival where they’ve already had the opportunity to serve on juries and award prizes for the best teen films.
