SHADOW CASTERS IN THE DOGE’S PALACE MANIN (Everything is in Money/$v€ j€ u nov₡u)

Written by on 2019-02-15

Palazzo Manin in Passariano, near Udine, was constructed at the beginning of the 17th century based on designs by the famous Palladio. Over the subsequent centuries, it was expanded, remodeled, and enhanced by architects Domenico Rossi, Giovanni Ziborghi, and Giorgio Massori, culminating in its present Baroque form by the late 18th century.

Despite being a protected cultural monument of the highest rank, Palazzo Manin continues to serve as a vibrant hub for artists and art from around the world, hosting exhibitions, performances, festivals, and other cultural events. It also functions as a creative laboratory where new works are developed. Currently, Shadow Casters, in collaboration with the Trieste-based association Mamarogi and in partnership with CSS – the permanent theatre of innovation of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, are preparing their new performance here.

This initiative is part of the ongoing exploration by Shadow Casters into their multi-year performance and film project Everything is in Money, supported by the FVG Region, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and the City of Zagreb.

Following this laboratory work at Villa Manin, the Shadow Casters will continue their research in Zagreb, Rijeka, Ljubljana, and Dubrovnik, in collaboration with Pogon – Zagreb Center for Independent Culture and Youth, the Multimedia Centre in Split, and other partners.

The residency and laboratory at Villa Manin, which lasts until February 21, will hold an open day for the public and producers from across Europe on Monday, February 18. Participants will engage in research, discussions, and a final performance at 8 PM.

Directed by Boris Bakal, the project includes Croatian artists, as well as Slovenian directors, choreographers, dancers, and actresses Elena Husu and Daša Grgič, and Italian artists Adriano Girardi, Manuel Butus, and Matteo Sabattini.

In previous phases of “Everything is in Money” contributors included writer, actor, and director Maurizio Zacchignia, physicist, economic historian and writer Guido Chiarotti, visual artist Massimo Racozzi, and many other Croatian, Slovenian, and Italian collaborators.

Admission to the open day on February 18, 2019, and the 8 PM performance is free. Interested parties can register by calling +390432504765 or +385981658186, or by emailing residenzevillamanin@cssudine.it.
