“From 8 to 8 – One-day Conference at KIC”

Written by on 2021-12-07

How was multimedia used in education forty years ago, and how could it be used tomorrow? We know the advantages, but what about the challenges? It’s dynamic and develops skills needed for the job market, but can it also offer more to children and youth?

You are invited to a one-day conference on multimedia in education, on December 14, 2021, Tuesday, at KIC Hall, Preradovićeva 5, Zagreb, with online streaming available. The link to the conference stream will be accessible here and on the event’s Facebook page.

You can watch the live stream here: https://youtu.be/rvw3yrfOxIM

The conference is aimed at teachers, educators in media literacy, media technicians, film students, and anyone interested in the topic.

Schedule:

14:00 – 15:30 – RISK ART FILM – round table. High-quality films carry risk, demand viewer engagement, and provoke. Should they have a place in education? We will ask Boris Bakal (film director and educator, Shadow Casters), Bojana Burnać (cinematographer, director, and educator), and Ivona Marendić (teacher, School of Applied Arts).

16:00 – 17:30 – ELEMENT FILM – discussion and screening. Multimedia in schools isn’t new! Back in the 1970s, teachers in our schools used 8mm projectors and collections of film elements. Tomislav Šakić (Academy of Dramatic Art) and Vjeran Pavlinić (Croatian Cinematheque) will tell us about these films and their use. We’ll also watch an interesting selection on visual arts, ruins, and the Middle Ages (archival material from the Croatian State Archives).

18:00 – 19:30 – MORE THAN A GAME – round table. They want to introduce video games into schools! Žarko Čižmar (Telecentre), Aleksandar Gavrilović (Game Chuk and Cluster of Croatian Game Developers), and Marko Horvat and Tomislav Jagušt (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing) will present research on using video game design in computer science education for elementary and high school students, conducted within the Digital Literacy Development Network.

The program will be hosted by Marija Georgiev, head of film education programs at Shadow Casters.

To enter the KIC Hall, a Covid certificate is required.

The conference “From 8 to 8” is part of the ESF project in which Shadow Casters are partners – Media Education is Important.MOV, UP.04.2.1.06.0047.
