As part of the “Sve-jedno 20” program celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Shadow Casters, we present the performance lecture and enrichment workshop “Money Talks”: in Zabok on May 15 at 8 PM, and in Pula on May 25 at 8 PM at the Social Center Rojc.
“The man without money is a picture of death,” says an ancient Latin proverb, and based on this idea, in 1994, the sect known as the Followers of Banks was founded in Zagreb, which during the 1990s visited many Croatian banks to express their faith. Two thousand and something years after that proverb and two and a half decades after the founding of the aforementioned sect, we haven’t moved far from these basic ideas about money. It is still our dearest and scariest thing. People in culture, especially ‘theatricals,’ are victims of inadequate education in this area. That is why a theater performance-lecture-workshop “Everything is money” has been made for all of them.
This is an educational and entertaining theater “lecture” and “workshop” on enrichment that Shadow Casters produced in a coproduction with the Italian art organization Mamarogi from Trieste and in cooperation with the Permanent Slovenian Theatre in Trieste. The premiere was at the 2018 Lunatico Festival in Trieste, and it was later performed several times in Udine, Codroip, and Trieste as well as theaters and festivals in Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Zadar, Podgorica (Montenegro), Skopje, and Bitola (Macedonia). In 2021 it will be played in Pula and Zabok, Split, Kutina, and Požega.
The play “Everything is money” deals with the relationships of social and material values on the one hand and money as a means of communication and exchange on the other, all from the perspective of personal narratives of actors, real financial flows of money, the ongoing financial crisis of this time, and the ambivalent role of money in the overall social exchange. The bank-financial “revolution” in the world market gave the concept to the project, which in real-time monitors parallel financial operations, investments, and their consequences on the environment, on the lives of individuals, on states, state systems and their segments, on the economy, and the economy. The field of research of the project is currently countries like Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, and others. During the project research, testimonies are continuously collected about personal experiences with money, about money from investments, acquisitions, enrichments, inheritances, impoverishments, bad financial luck to renunciation of material and financial or general bašmebrigizm. The cities of Trieste, Zagreb, Kopar, and Bitola are scenes of this research (collection of testimonies), conversations with experts (bankers, lawyers, philosophers, programmers, cryptologists, hackers, educators), work with children and young people in schools, special exhibitions, participant-theater performances, and the scene of a documentary film in the making.
