Celebration of 10 Years of FROOOM! Film School for Children and Youth
What: “What You Don’t See When Watching a Film” – celebration of 10 years of FROOOM! film school for children and youth
When: June 24th at 4:00 PM
Where: Tuškanac Cinema, Tuškanac 1, Zagreb
“When we read about the Bacači sjenki project for film and media literacy for children and youth FROOOM!, we all wanted to be children!” – with these words, the President of the Council for Complementary Activities of the Croatian Audiovisual Center announced the first funding of this project in spring 2012, which this Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at 4:00 PM, celebrates 10 years of successful implementation.
Since then, FROOOM!, a functional film school for children and youth, has expanded throughout Croatia, been presented on 5 continents, connected with major European and global institutions for film and media literacy, and produced over 400 short fiction, documentary, experimental, and animated films by children, which have won numerous awards and recognitions worldwide. Over 4000 participants have completed this comprehensive film education, which, in addition to film and media literacy, integrates information and media literacy into a functional educational program. This means that FROOOM! and Shadow Casters believe and advocate that every child in Croatia, alongside learning to read and write, calculate, and understand both texts, must simultaneously be educated in film and media literacy.
The complexity and innovation have been recognized by numerous partners across the EU and the world, making FROOOM! methodology a recognized and accepted innovative model for film and media education in Bangladesh, Germany, Chile, Portugal, France, and elsewhere.
To celebrate this beautiful and successful story, Shadow Casters invite all interested parties to an intermedial film event with a prize draw featuring 10 vouchers for our film workshops, 10 various film educational materials, 10 Shadow Casters T-shirts, 10 FROOOM! canvas bags, and many other prizes.
The artistic part of the program is dedicated to Mr. Grafoskop, and young architect and film author Mia Martinović will demonstrate how he can paint, shoot, and play. After a short break for a cheerful reception, a true film treat follows – the animated fantasy-adventure film “The Journey of a Prince,” a masterpiece created by Jean-François Laguionie, winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1978, and many other important film awards.
FROOOM! Film School has been recognized by the Ministry of Science and Education, the Croatian Society of Film Directors (DHFR), the Agency for Electronic Media (AEM), the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), and the Croatian Film Association (HFS), as well as by the City of Zagreb, the Municipality of Gradec, Zagreb County, the City of Split, Split Parking, Split-Dalmatia County, the City of Rijeka, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the City of Koprivnica, Koprivnica-Križevci County, and the City of Prelog, as an absolute educational success story that has attracted the attention of audiences and media for a full 10 years!
We continuously hold FROOOM! classes in Zagreb, Rijeka, Gradec, and Koprivnica, and intermittently in Split, Sinj, Komiža, Dubrovnik, Prelog, Pakrac, Opatija, Pula, and Osijek.
Shadow Casters are a multi-award-winning and acclaimed international artistic and production platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, creativity, and reflection on intermedial arts, seamlessly intertwining international collaboration, film, theater performances, urban intermedial projects, activism, educational work, video art, and curatorial practice into comprehensive artistic action.
