We invite you to apply for the six-day introductory and advanced film workshop “The Sky is the Limit,” which will take place from October 21-26 and November 4-9 at the Trnjanska Savica Neighborhood Committee – MOTS Gallery.
We offer: knowledge about film, good fun, and warm meals for participants.
These fantastically designed workshops are aimed at all people over 54 years old (or those who feel that way!) who want to learn more about films, new media, what their grandchildren or children do, and what is actually “the thing” that we don’t see while watching movies, TV, or playing computer games on our computers, tablets, or “smart” phones. We are not strict, so we will accept those under 54 who genuinely want to learn about film and media.
The introductory workshop will be led by long-time collaborators from the Shadow Casters: film director, educator, and author Paula Skelin, along with journalist, screenwriter, and film author and producer Velimir Grgić. The advanced workshop will be led by Karlo Vorih, an award-winning film director and skilled editor, screenwriter, and producer.
Workshop Schedule: (from Monday to Saturday!)
- Monday and Thursday: 12 PM – 6 PM (Introductory: October 21 & 24; Advanced: November 4 & 7)
- Tuesday and Friday: 10 AM – 4 PM (Introductory: October 22 & 25; Advanced: November 5 & 8)
- Wednesday and Saturday: 3 PM – 6 PM (Introductory: October 23 & 26; Advanced: November 6 & 9)
While we are somewhat flexible regarding age, we do have some requirements and criteria, including:
- Minimum educational qualification
- Preference is given to retirees and/or unemployed individuals
So far, we have successfully conducted the “The Sky is the Limit” program in Zagreb, Rijeka, Sinj, Pakrac, Pula, Koprivnica, and Karlovac, where we had a great time and made about 30 films that we presented at screenings and festivals. We explored what a retiree does during their pensioner week, created advertisements for existing and non-existent products and services, planned a weather forecast, and filmed TV quirky news. In addition to all this, we learned about the history of film and film professions, watched many anthology and newer films, discussed them, socialized intensively, and played many interesting board games as well as those that enhance our perception, concentration, and focus.
Participants in these workshops will have the opportunity to get acquainted with all phases of the film process, including shooting image and sound, understanding the director’s job, as well as scriptwriting and much more. Through teamwork, they will collaboratively create a final product – a short film or video work that reflects their creativity and cinematic artistry.
Participation in the workshops is completely free, but mandatory for the entire duration of the 6-day workshop. Lunch will be provided for participants during the morning sessions, and the number of spots in the workshops is limited to 15 participants!
