FROOOM! into the Future! – Children’s Film Festival at Tuškanac Cinema

This Saturday, April 30th, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the Tuškanac Cinema, Shadow Casters, the CinEd film education program, and the FROOOM! film school for children and youth invite you to celebrate children’s films and filmmaking:

FROOOM! into the Future!

To warm up, at 10 AM the FILM UPSIDE DOWN film club will show two special short films from the CinEd collection of European films, Back to School and A Little Light, which are special because they explore the world through the eyes, ears, and senses of children. The films were made at different times and on different continents, in 1950s France and contemporary Dakar, and reveal the rich inner world of daring child heroes. After the screenings, filmmaker, cinematographer, educator, and free diver Bojana Burnać will guide you through the exploration of the films.

At 12 PM, under the guidance of Mario Kovač, a director, writer, actor, musician, and world-renowned quiz master, we will open the 8th FROOOM! Film Festival. Mario will introduce us to 40 film works by young filmmakers from Zagreb, Rijeka, Gradec, and Koprivnica, created through thirty workshops in 2021. These feature, documentary, and experimental films will now be premiered before embarking on their festival journey.

Films from the FROOOM! film school for children and youth from previous years were presented and awarded in 2021 at 17 domestic and international festivals, mostly at children’s creativity reviews but also at professional festivals. At Saturday’s festival, you will see new masterpieces in three blocks! Admission to all screenings is free and no prior registration is required.

For 12 years, FROOOM! has been systematically and thoughtfully building future generations of film authors, and it takes place in 10 cities and towns across Croatia. It is supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Croatian Film Directors Guild, the Electronic Media Agency, the City of Zagreb, the City of Rijeka, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the City of Koprivnica, Koprivnica-Križevci County, and Zagreb County.

CinEd 2.0 is one of the most significant projects for the film literacy of children and youth in Europe. It is co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe MEDIA, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Office for NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, and the City of Zagreb.

Shadow Casters is an award-winning and acclaimed artistic platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, creativity, and participatory arts thinking, successfully intertwining filmmaking, international cooperation, activism, and pedagogical work. Shadow Casters is supported by the Kultura Nova Foundation.

This 8th FROOOM! film festival will be spiced up with a reception made possible by Mario – Mar Bakery, which has been offering a different perspective and tastes of bakery delicacies since 1996.
