CinEd Forum in Zagreb

Written by on 2022-03-21

CinEd is one of the most complex film literacy projects in the EU, aimed at a wide range of users: teachers of all directions and levels, educational program leaders, film and audiovisual professionals who want to collaborate in building European culture and educating young people about European film.

We invite all teachers, professors, educators, film professionals, and authors to join us at the CinEd forum events dedicated to teaching about film and through film on April 6th and 7th, 2022. It will be lively, interesting, and useful.

The CinEd forum will bring together some of the most important European actors in film education. We will focus on using film as a tool in teaching, and the forum will feature the screening of a new film in the CinEd collection, “Fear Eats the Soul,” considered by many to be the best work of the cult director R. W. Fassbinder.

On Wednesday, April 6th, at 3 PM, we will host a roundtable in the Urania hall with the authors of some of the best new Croatian films, Sonja Tarokić and Nebojša Slijepčević. We will discuss their films “The Staffroom” and “Srbenka,” provocation as a possible method in teaching, and film as a means of exploring systems and their problems, moderated by Marija Georgiev, filmmaker and Shadow Casters’ education leader.

Then, at 5 PM, there will be a presentation of the CinEd project and its new interactive film viewing platform, www.cined.eu. The presentation will be opened by Chris Marcich, director of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. The CinEd project will be presented by Rui Machado, Deputy Director of the Portuguese Cinematheque; Nathalie Bourgeois, educational coordinator of the project; and Boris Bakal, artistic director of Shadow Casters. The new CinEd platform will be introduced by Alexandre Ulisses, head of innovations at MOG Technologies.

On Thursday, April 7th, at Tuškanac Cinema, we will start with a screening of “Fear Eats the Soul” for high school students at 12 PM, followed by an analysis and discussion moderated by filmmaker and FROOOM! workshop leader, Karlo Vorih.

We continue at Tuškanac Cinema at 4 PM, where European film and education experts will present new CinEd pedagogical tools for using film in teaching: Andrea Reisz, Christine Kopf, Elina Vitkala, Eva Spilková, Gintė Žulytė, Isabelle Bourdon, Laia Colell, Maria Cascella, Marija Georgiev, Mette Lagerstam, Monica Sebestyen, Ralitsa Assenova, Sebastien Rosenow, and Teresa Garcia. Ejla Kovačević will talk about her work using film as a tool in foreign language teaching.

Finally, at 6:30 PM at Tuškanac, we have a treat: a screening of R. W. Fassbinder’s “Fear Eats the Soul”, followed by a discussion on using this and other provocative films in work with young people. The discussion will be moderated by Martin Ganguly, director and university professor, head of the school project at the German Berlinale festival, who will share his experiences teaching this and other Fassbinder films.

Presentations and discussions will be in English with translation into Croatian. Admission to all events is free.
