Veno Mušinović’s “Čančara” project to be presented at Connecting Cottbus 2026

The project by our long-time member and current Vice-President of Shadow Casters, director, actor, film educator and dramaturge Veno Mušinović, his debut feature fiction film Čančara, will be presented in the cocoPitch section of the Connecting Cottbus co-production market, held as part of the Cottbus Film Festival of Eastern European Cinema.

Mušinović will present the project in Cottbus together with producer Aleksandar Arsovski of the production company Wolfgang & Dolly.

Čančara (Cargo to the South) is a fast-paced comedy that unfolds like an avalanche of events. At the centre of the story are two brothers in their thirties, whose journey becomes entangled with rival gangsters and no fewer than three hundred valuable Hermann’s tortoises travelling towards Split.

The film is being developed by Wolfgang & Dolly, with Aleksandar Arsovski as producer, and its development has received support from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.

Čančara is Veno Mušinović’s debut feature fiction film.

“My main motivation is to tell a story full of crazy, ‘only in the movies’ moments, but one that is grounded in real relationships we can recognise ourselves in. I believe there is room for those kinds of contradictions. The plan is to make an honest and entertaining film without reheating childhood trauma,” said director Mušinović.
