From October 15 to 20, 2024, CinEd member Asociația Culturală Contrasens, in collaboration with Bad Unicorn, is organizing the 2nd edition of the TAIFAS Festival, a vibrant celebration of Balkan cinema and culture, held in Timișoara, Romania. In addition to celebrating Balkan cinema and culture, the festival offers a unique interdisciplinary experience combining film, music, and gastronomy. The goal of this festival is to promote Balkan art films, expand access to cultural education, and encourage cooperation among diverse communities.
At its inaugural edition in 2023, the festival showcased a selection of contemporary and classic Balkan films and organized workshops and culinary events dedicated to the region’s rich heritage, proving successful and therefore returning this year. Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most acclaimed Balkan films from the past year, curated from prestigious international festivals.
One of the festival’s main attractions is its focus on film education, aiming to make cinema more accessible while fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange – this is where CinEd steps in. The Film Education Conference at TAIFAS will bring together experts from the fields of film and education to discuss the impact of film as an educational tool. CinEd will offer various training sessions led by our trainers from different partners in the Consortium. Panel discussions will explore topics such as integrating film education into festivals, the role of film education for mental health, and examining the relevance of national film education programs.
This year, our Ivana Šešlek, CinEd project leader in Croatia, will attend the festival and participate in a teacher training session on Wednesday, October 16, at 11:30 a.m.
