Shadow Casters are once again organizing free film workshops “Only the Sky Is Our Limit” for our fellow citizens aged 54 and above. We invite you to apply now and secure your place at the Rijeka workshop, which is held alongside the Frooom! film workshop for children.
Dates: March 30 – April 3
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Rijeka City Library, “Benčić”
Registration: https://forms.gle/MxS9t5uqLSSjbPqD8
With this project, we aim to contribute to a higher level of media literacy among older adults, encourage intergenerational connection, and reduce generational misunderstandings. We also seek to increase the inclusion of senior citizens in the active life of the community and improve their quality of life. Regardless of their maturity or retirement status, older people can continue to actively contribute to their own development and to the development of their community—especially through media and film literacy.
The workshops are intended for anyone who wants to learn more about film and new media, about what their children or grandchildren are engaged in, and about what often remains hidden when we watch films, television, or play computer games on computers, tablets, and smartphones. Of course, we will not be checking ID cards—participants under the age of 54 who wish to learn more about film and media are also welcome. However, in the case of high interest, priority will be given to retirees and unemployed persons.
All participants will be provided with a free hot meal.
DESCRIPTION
The workshops are designed as an introduction to film and media creation through practical and interactive work. Participants will learn the basics of film language—shots and framing, film genres, screenwriting, elements of editing, and the process of creating a fiction, documentary, animated, or experimental film. Through the workshops, the development of ideas and stories, teamwork, and creative expression will be encouraged. Participants will have the opportunity to try out different phases of film production—from concept development and preparation, through filming, to final post-production.
Special emphasis is placed on familiarizing participants with contemporary media and media content that young people use on a daily basis. The workshops are led by experienced film and media professionals with many years of experience in education and working with young people, and the program is adapted to the interests and prior knowledge of the participants.
Shadow Casters are a multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed artistic and production platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, creation, and reflection on intermedia art. The organization successfully and seamlessly intertwines film production, international collaboration, theatrical performances, urban intermedia projects, activism, educational work, video art, and curatorial practice into a cohesive artistic activity.
Shadow Casters are supported by:
The National Foundation for Civil Society Development; Kultura Nova Foundation; City of Rijeka; City of Zagreb; Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC); Ministry of Science, Education and Youth; Ministry of Culture and Media.
